Why Does It Feel Like My Life Is Falling Apart in My Late 20s? 3 Journal Prompts for Feeling Lost and Overwhelmed
Sometimes it’s easier to vent to strangers on the internet than the people closest to us.
Not because strangers know us better…
but because they don’t always expect us to have everything figured out by now.
A lot of people quietly struggle in their 20s because this stage of life feels nothing like what they imagined growing up.
You thought by now you’d feel:
more secure
more confident
more financially stable
more emotionally grounded
more certain about where your life was headed
Instead, a lot of people feel exhausted, confused, behind, and emotionally overwhelmed.
That’s part of why we started going live on TikTok every Monday-Friday at 7PM EST.
We wanted to create a space where people could say the things they usually keep trapped in their head.
Recently, someone commented:
“I’m not good sir. I just turned 27 and everything is just kind of going poorly man.”
And honestly?
A lot of people know this feeling.
Because there’s something uniquely heavy about feeling lost while believing you’re running out of time to figure your life out.
You look around and see:
people getting married
buying homes
advancing in careers
posting happy moments online
Meanwhile, you’re just trying to emotionally survive the week.
And after a while, it becomes easy to internalize thoughts like:
“I’m behind”
“I should be doing better by now”
“Everyone else figured life out except me”
“What if things never get better?”
But struggling in your late 20s doesn’t mean you failed.
Sometimes it means you’re in the uncomfortable space between who you were and who you’re still becoming.
And honestly?
That transition can feel incredibly lonely.
So here are 3 journal prompts I’d ask someone in this situation:
1. What part of my life currently feels the heaviest right now?
What emotions have I been trying to ignore or push through instead of actually processing?
2. What expectations about where I “should” be by this age are making me feel like I’m failing?
Who taught me those timelines?
3. If I stopped viewing this season of my life as proof that I’m behind…
what else could this season possibly be teaching me about myself?
Because sometimes the hardest part about feeling lost…
is believing that a difficult chapter means your entire story is falling apart.
Next time your brain is spiraling, open Plurawl...vent...and it will help you make sense of your thoughts.
The w in is silent, but you don't have to be.
